Different types of lifters. Flat tappets have a smooth flat bottom, roller lifters have a small wheel/bearing at the bottom that rolls along the lobes of the cam so that they can keep better contact with the cam at higher rpms. Different cam types require different lifter types.

Basically Mr Adaya.....you're giving up the new and improved technology, for the old tech stuff it replaced.
Kind of like swapping a proven fuel-injected setup for a carbureted setup.
These days.....if you want to step up with more performance from a cam swap, be sure that you look for a Hydraulic Roller cam kit.
