Default Looping Power steering rack?

Hi all I have a 97 Z/28 that is strictly a track car with an LT1 in it. I am looking to drop weight in the car. right now I am interested in doing the Alt. relocation and going to manual steering. I don't want to put out the money right now for a manual rack and want to know has anyone done the looping to convert power rack to manual (I understand not actually converting to manual), or at least delete power steering pump and reservoir? I run skinnies on the front and don't really care about being harder to turn. what is the process? in the future I will go to a tubular K Member and manual rack at that time.

I did all of that last year and am very happy with it. Lots more room in the engine bay with the low mount alt bracket and no power steering. With the skinnies i can turn mine just fine also. It is all very easy to do. There is a way to convert the rack. I just bled it out and looped it.

Bled and looped here as , However it takes some work to steer it when backing up or turning while slow. But the room in the engine bay is well worth it

I took the lines off and set a drain pan under it and turned the wheel back and fourth about 40 times. All the fluid comes out the fittings into the pan. Then i cut the ends of the old lines off right after the nut that screws into the rack. I flared them and put a rubber hose on connecting them.

I just cut the lines a couple inches off the rack and looped with a hose. To be honest the manual was only a little better for turning in my opinion.

Im at a 175 shot now. From what i seen tuesday night it has 4 tenths or so( ran a 10.24@134 with a 1.523 60) left in it. It was way to fat and the 60 is terrable. Gonna try to go back next week and do some tuning on it. car went a 11.40@120 with a 1.65 60 on motor tuesday as well

I'm looped here too, also did the low mount alt, but instead of the one engineered for the LT1, I bought the significantly cheaper generic SBC low mount alt bracket. Took a bit of DIY to get it to work, and a couple attempts at getting the belt length correct, but I love it now. I have sticky 245's on the front and low speed turning is interesting, but doable.
