Default Lifter Valley condition

How does this look for 99k. Seems kinda red and tarnished? Oil looks good though. Never lost any coolant level. Doing a LE cam swap!

Hit it with some brake cleaner, rag, and shop vac to vaccum up residue

It looks fine.

You can remove the spider tray to clean it but I wouldn't do much else. Wiping down the valley with a rag is only going to fill it with lint. You could hit it with the shop vac but I would try to keep the vac exhaust as far as possible so dusty crap doesn't get in there.

Okay shop vac it is. Its getting new lifters and pushrods too. Do i have to do anything with the oil pump drive gear when pulling the cam? Should i drain the blocks coolant so when i pull the heads coolant doesnt spill all over the cylinders?

WP passages are below the heads so I would think you got most of the coolant out. But can't hurt to fully drain the block. If you do want to drain the block, pulling the Knock Sensor out may be the easiest "plug" to access.
