Default Egr removal

Got the air system off, now looking at EGR.

I got the plates. Is it possible to do without removing the intake?
Also, the pipe going down to the manifold, can I get to it from the top?
Just looking for tips, thanks

I was thinking of deleting mine out on my 89 IROC, but new if I did it would effect something else. Well upon further research I learned that the EGR Circuit does have a hand in the timing. It will either advance or retard it by 2 degrees depending on how lean or rich the exhaust is running. From what I gather, you have to wipe out the VATTS Circuit and the EGR Circuit to eliminate it. What happens when you delete the EGR circuit without removing it from the program is that the computer will advance the timing by 2 degrees, then it realizes the car is running wrong, so it retards it by 4 degrees. So you actually end up losing 2 degrees of timing. I am looking for info myself, but wanted to share this with you. The pipe that you are talking about, (I am assuming) is the pipe that runs from the EGR Check Valve on the Pass. side, down to the Cat. Yes you can get to it from the top. There is rubber section of hose between The Check Valve and the Air Bypass Valve. At the moment, I do not have any of that pipe behind the Bypass Valve, on mine. It seems to be running fine, but you can hear the bypss valve constantly puffing air all the time. I have a good many schematics on that circuit if you would like them.

Took the EGR and air system off of my LT1 after blown head gasket repair when I bought the car. You can get to the E.G.R. on the back of the intake without taking it off but its is a complete pain in the ***! The plates that I had weren't an exact fit so I had to use a slide hammer to move the plates all the way to the bottom of the studs. I also removed the e.g.r. without any tuning and it runs just fine, although it does throw the service engine soon light on.

Hope this helped
