LT1 not running right

LT1 not running right I have a weird issue with my mass air flow sensor (or what i think is the issue). My car sat for awhile before it was given to me, I went through all the electrical connections, cleaned the fuel system out, and couldn't seem to get it started. I took my intake off straight to the manifold and turned it over and it started right up. I then put the boot back onto the intake manifold it it died within 15 seconds. I then took off my mass air flow sensor and it ran again fine, just with a buck in low rpm when put into gear. I bought a new sensor and put it on and it runs just not exactly how think it should be running. It has a small buck in low rpms, or right when its shifted into gear. A close friend of mine said it could be a bad iac.
