Default 97 Z28, replace subs with speakers?

Has anyone ever removed the Factory subs in and just put in regular speakers? I already replaced the door speakers with some kickers, as well as the two smaller speakers in the back with kickers, and have a single sub box in the trunk, sounds pretty good. Was wandering if running speakers where the subs are at (back seat area) would just be overkill? I'm working with a Pioneer X720BT, so far all the speakers are matched to the radios RMS output etc.. soldered connections everywhere, factory amp removed from the spare tire area.. just looking for even better sound!

I had the Bose option on mine. Used those speakers in door and backseat and added tweeters on the triangle area where the mirrors connects to the door. I don't remember why, but I ran all new speaker wire to the speakers (I think because they were pre-amped at the speaker?). I have a 10" sub/bandpass box in the hatch. Sounds good enough for me.

Bose is always screwy with the speaker impedance and they seem to heavily equalize speakers with the amps on them too. In a nutshell, you can't just replace the speakers and have it sound right....at least that was the case for me.

So if you are going with all aftermarket amps, speakers, and head unit you should be fine.

I agree with SS RRR on running separate speaker wires as well.

I didn't think those were subs, on the Bose they are full range speakers. If you are running an aftermarket deck and speakers matched to it, your best bet is to replace those rear seat speakers with some full range components or 3 ways (Rockford Fosgate R165x3 are low powered with a high DBL@1w, and are really clear, they push a decent amount of mid bass too and they're only $35/pr). Then run a dedicated sub. The shape of the hatch really helps with the sub frequencies. The stock Bose sub is mounted on the drivers side of the T-Top storage area. If you're handy with fiberglass work, you could do a 10" sealed enclosure there with good results.

My plan is a 10" custom sealed enclosure replacing the Bose Sub, and replacing all the Bose surround speakers with some components all run off a simple 5 channel amp. Nothing extravagant, but should give me great sound quality and depth without taking up any storage space (nor giving any thieves ideas to gank my stuff).
