Default rear brake weight thingy

Im just curious with the rear disk calipers on our cars, whats the point of the wheel weight thing on the caliper?

It's suppose to help with the emergency brake disengagement I believe but I'm not sure.. But I BEEN removed that crap lol... And the brakes work fine..

I believe it is a vibration dampener.

This is correct, without it the rear brakes can "sing" in certain situations such as on a road course. It wont be missed in typical street driving situations. If your looking to save weight you can ditch it with out worry.
