Digicon Smart Spark
I recently bought a 96 SS with a procharger on it. The car came with a digicon smart spark, but no instructions. I bought this car through the dealer I work at not an individual that I could speak with about the controller. I know it is old school, but I would like to know how to use it until I can get tuning software. Does anyone have experience with one of these or have a set of instructions. I am willing to pay for a copy. There is absolutely no specific information on the web that I can find. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I know the mustang guys used them, but also some lt1 guys prior to current tuning software availability. I remember when these came out back on the 90's. Figured I would check with this crowd first. I have had the car for a few months, but don't drive it much. Only has 32k original miles on it. There was a reciept in the glove box from a company that did an LT1 edit "partial tune" on it whatever that means. Probably scaled the injectors for the 36lb injectors since it doesn't have an fmu. Got on it the other day for the first time and heard some spark clatter and immediately got out of it. Wish I had my MDI and laptop hooked up to see what it was doing. Really don't want to damage the motor. Ultimate plan is to remove the procharger and go back stock other than maybe a full exhaust and suspension. Kinda wanted to run it at the track once prior to doing that and being able remove timing with this box might be beneficial song don't blow the engine. Thanks for the reply though.
I'll take that procharger off your hands... Are you sure you don't want to try to get it tuned with a modern PCM and software and really enjoy a good running fast car rather than demod it? These things are not worth anything, stock or modded.
Not sure what I will do with the Procharger. I had considered putting it on my 84 Firebird I am almost done building. It has a 93 LT1/M29 6spd swap. Although to mount this kit on that car is going to require a k-member/manual rack swap. I actually have an autoprom for my 93 LT1 that I can use in pass-thru mode to flash a 94-94 ecm. I have all the software and flashing tools. I just need a 95 ecm and the ob2 cable for my autoprom. I have been curious about this box. I believe they had several other functions. Figured if I can figure out how to use it I could use it tweak timing while I acquired the ecm and the cabl2 for my autoprom. No biggie, the car is put up for the winter and should have the ecm before spring. I think this car will hold it's value. Clean low mile LT1 SS cars are hard to come by. This car is immaculate too. I just need to find a factory 96 SS air box.
Did a search but it seems that was popular before much of the current internet, since even trying to get old caches of the links through the internet archive fail to give valid downloads. All I found was this one post about its optional input/output.
orange- auxilary input(can be hooked to any input switch. example:wide open throttle switch on a nitrous kit. it will also switch to the second ignition map. if not using it just ground it)
yellow-auxilary output( can be hooked up to a relay which controls a shift light,an nos solenoids or any device that can be turn on and off at a specific rpm. it sends out a grounding output. do not connect directly to any device drawing more than
0.5amps or damage to smart spark will occur.)
no white wire
