Smile what kind of power ?? 383 Stroker

Hello im new here and wanted some insight considering not many are knowledgable enough on the forums on FB

I have a full forged 383 lt1 short block;

Forged flat top mahle pistons
bored 30 over
Cam 240/240 .6/.6 108 LSA

Valvetrain;
AFR 210 heads

AFR springs

Bolt ons;
FUll exhaust (longtubes, xpipe, dumps)
underdrive pully

What kind of power can this setup make after a solid tune and what size injectors should i get?

You were grossly misinformed.

Use Moe Bailey or Ed Wright

So with pcmforless...Bryan Herter at pcmforless has done mail order tuning and dyno tuning for me and he is excellent. He has been a highly regarded LT1 tuner for years and I will go to him when I need my LT1 tuned next. Now....I don't recall details but I read there is someone that now works there or splits the ownership by the name of Keith? and I've heard some negative things about tunes or customer service as of late. I don't know his role, how things work there now, the root cause of the issues or what is going on. So in person dyno tuning with Bryan is one thing and mailorder tuning with Keith? or whoever is doing them is another thing so if you go with a mail order tune from them I would want to know for a fact that Bryan is doing the tune. It's a shame, Bryan is a nice guy, I always had good communication with him and been happy with the tunes. Hope things get better there.

I've heard good things about Ed and Moe for years. Not sure if Ed still tunes though. Hope that all helps.

Thanks guys I'll look out for them, I'm located in North Texas, so I didn't know of any good ones around here, but 450-+ whp is realistic?? They are just out of the box heads, but I will do more work on them once the motor is nice and broken in.

Also what injectors would be needed for this type of setup, I've heard anywhere between 36-42 elsewhere.

I'd imagine 36's to be appropriate. I think the 42's may be overkill. Hell even 30's may work okay but I think the 36's are a good bet.

I know you were asking about mail order tunes, I think a mail order tune would be great for you to get the car running and to break things in etc. but I'd highly recommend ultimately getting the car tuned on a dyno and possibly on the street as well. Your setup isn't a basic cookie cutter setup like a stock car with headers is so a mail order tune can only get so close. Sure you could send data logs back and forth to someone but that sounds like a real pita so if you can find a local reputable LT1 tuner I would have it done right. Unfortunately finding a good reputable local LT1 tuner seems to be the big challenge these days.

Ed recently (about 8 months ago) did a PCM tweak for me (it was a emission IM adjustment). He sold his shop/dyno years ago but was still doing mail order. IMHO he is the Godfather of PCM tuning, especially LT1/4 platform.

My 350 H/C motor and now my 383 H/C motor is pretty basic and Ed or other qualified tuner can get a mail order tune either dead nuts or very close to it. Especially if you have some scan software to log data if you feel something is not right/the best you can send back specific data the tuner will request. Every time I "thought" the tune may be causing some issue....it was ALWAYS on my end. Ed graciously assisted me each time I did feel something was not right but it was never anything to do with his tune. He did ask for certain data log 411 to double check though.

Many have used PCM4less...I met Brian at a National meet several years ago. Short story, I would never let him touch my car be it mail order or tune on dyno.

He's active here sometimes as moehorsepower, so you could send him a PM, or on ltxtech.com you can do a hashbrown thing like @moehorsepower and it sends a pm or something to that member. I think most tuners will do the first datalog correction for free after the first $200 or so base tune. Is your PCM OBD1 or OBDII? And out of curiosity what's your quench and static compression? I haven't seen Ed Wright post on here in a while though, I used to love his stories like the one about Edelbrock and the magazine articles and how those puff piece articles work.

Cam's gonna make that engine a REAL shaker with about 24* of overlap!

To the wheels.....depends on how well the heads were cast and if your quench was kept below .040".....but off hand, I'm gonna say about 420 to 430 HP and right about 400 TQ.

I've used pcmforless twice and never had an issue.

383 cubes, AFR 210's and a 240 cam sounds like a good combo. Easy 425+rwhp
