Default Cam time.

Ok. It's been some time since I've been on here and I may have asked before. When it wasn't a need. But it's cam upgrade time. I have a 94 formula. Other than minor bolt on ****. It's stock. But after 220k on the original set. Headgasket finally took a ****. So what a better time than now? I've been looking at the cc503. Being I still drive it and have 1 more emissions test before the state declares it a classic and will no longer be required.

as I said. Looking at the cc503. Was also looking as keeping the stock heads. But porting and going 2.02/1.60 valves. Pro/cons? But ultimately because the post talking about it. Didn't go into super details as far as needs. Other than the obvious.

I will be having machine work done. That is necessary. But otherwise just a good cleaning and parts. What can anyone tell me. Thanks.

How in depth is your emissions testing? Depending on that you could run a less emissions friendly cam but have a separate tune to pass.

if doing heads also best bet would be to go to either AI or LE for a heads and cam package

CC-503 is an OK cam if you're looking to pass emissions. You just better have a good tuner on retainer!

Going with 2.02/1.60 valves is way too much with a stock displacement engine with a cam as 'mild' as a 503 cam.

I'd go no bigger than 2.00/1.55.....which happens to be the same side as LT4 valves.

Now for the VERY SHAMELESS PLUG.......I do happen to have LT4 valves that I can sell ya. But even if you don't buy mine.....I still recommend the 2.00/1.55 valve size.

Jus' sayin'....

If you're going to get head work done, go bigger than the 503. If you're worried about emissions, then either wait until after the last test, and do all the work once, or find a more friendly shop. You certainly don't want to put the 503 in, and then a month later, wishing you had gone bigger.

Being Washington state recognizes anything over 25 years to be a classic. I'm not super worried if I pass or not at this point. It was just as large as I was looking to go. Without a ton of money to do everything. Plus I do still drive it. It wouldn't be to radical. Was more of an idea. Just figured since I was gonna have to tear it down at this point anyway. Didn't seem like a bad idea.

Plus not to mention. I have coated LT non-EGR pacesetter. So I knew a tune would be a must.

I guess at this stage. I'm looking to be in the 4-500 range. And as I've seen. There are a lot of options. The 503 was just the first one that really caught my eye. That probably would make my gas millage like my old big block 3/4 truck. And I make decent money. Just not enough to gamble and try it. Just for the the sake of. Lol

Not many post that have a planned out package. Example: bigger injectors, gears, converter, heads, etc. But I am all ears. This car was what I drove in 96 when I got my license. So I want it to be proper is all.
