Compatible OB2 LT1 PCM's So I bought the JET tuning software to convert my car to speed density and it bricked my PCM. I guess some people have problems with the cable they send with the program. I am in the process of getting a different style cable and a new pcm. Does anyone know what model and years of cars have the pcm as a 96-97 trans am and camaro z28? I found a pcm out of a 96' caprice but don't know if it will work or not. Thanks. |

Anyway......1996 Impala SS, Caprice, Roadmaster, Caddy Fleetwood, and 1996/97 Corvette will all have the OBD-2 still PCM that you want. Should be pretty easy to score one on the Impala SS forum. Happy hunting! KW |
What can you use besides jet to tune obd2s? My buddy has jet also and it loves to brick pcms |
I've been using JetDST for years have not bricked one PCM. Are they still selling the OBD2 kit with a module that has a 9 pin DB connector to go to computer? If so, what kind of laptop are you using? If it doesn't have a built in hardware 9 pin DB connector on the motherboard you are asking for trouble as 9 pin DB to USB adapters can jack up the communications. I think there are some USB adapters that can work, but you have to get one with a specific chipset in it. I can't speak as to which one to buy as I use a laptop with a hardware com port....simply not going to chance it. |
i have a complete lt1 obd2 setup with LT1 edit for it tied to PCM. My PCM also has the lt4 knock sensor in it and it's been socketed. You can buy my complete setup with a dyno tune on it. or... if you want to keep it cheaper...send your pcm out and get it socketed by Andy at akm cables. he did my setup and no issues or need to replace the PCM. |
The FTDI chipsets I believe are what you are looking for in the RS232 -> USB converters. There's also a DIY solution here. What seems to happen to most people I know is the computer/lap top may go to screen saver or other background programs interfering. A few times there were too many accessories (including dome light) active in the car while the PCM is being erased and re-flashed. It sounds dumb but most don't realize that the PCM is not always seeing the same battery voltage that you measure at the terminals so bad grounds or other wiring issues that come with age can play a big factor in the success/failure. |

HAHA! You, GMRACER, Plan_Z, Launch, Davis, myself. EDIT: maybe not GMRACER but he was there for at least one of those events. |

If you are talking about Andrew @ AKM, he quit doing that years ago.. |
I bought Jet DST when it first came out and have re-flashed at least 100 times with no bricks. Using an old XP laptop with native rs-232 port and all screen savers and sleep mode disabled. |
My shop contracted out to a guy to come in and flash whenever we had new body/feature modules or PCMs installed. He always had us install a battery charger on the vehicle before he started flashing it. He easily did over 100 vehicles for me without issue. |
