Default advice on where to start?

so i got another camaro 95 z, and its all stock with a rebuilt motor with about 500 miles on it. my goal is a steet/strip car with at least 400hp and 400tq and eventually i thought id do those Ai head/cam packeges and that would put me at that hp right?

but for now what to do before getting into the motor heavily?

H/C package would get you to that HP/TQ . Contact Lloyd Elliott

You would want the "supporting" mods also:

30 lb injectors
255 LPH FP
headers
3:73 gears if auto
higher stall TC if auto
4:10's if T56

You would not need injectors, bigger fuel pump until the H/C package so gears and stall if auto for now and headers

yes my 383 passes Calif. smog. Being on the + side of that line has left HP on the table...part of the smog game. I have to do the "STAR" smog test. Tail pipe, plug in and visual...full colonic and no breaks from smog shop. It has passed every time

IDK if the LE2 H/C package will "pass". Discuss with Lloyd. Your tune will be a major factor in passing along with a motor that has no "issues" (exhaust leaks, bad 02's, etc)

My 383 dyno is 385 RWHP/392 RWTQ.

my .02 would be keep researching and if you spring for the doing the stall first its no big deal bc when you contact le, he can use your new stall specs and custom spec a cam for application. depending on your goals and what you desire for drivability the majority of guys run in the 3200-4000 range with 3600 being a popular choice with 3.73 gears.

I would do gears then do the TC stall when you do cam if you are not doing these mods all at once. Do a shift kit when you do the TC

Might want to discuss your H/C goals with Lloyd first and determine what stall with your 3:73 gears his cam would work best based on YOUR USE INTENT of the car and buy that TC stall if you do want to do stall & gears with stock motor vs when you do the H/C package first

Really consider your use intent of the car. High stalls for 1/4 mi may not be what you want for the other 99% of the street driving you do. TC stall speed and how higher stall TC act differently in city street driving vs ones in the 2400-2800 rpm range can be subjective. What one person likes the other may hate.

Add a external tranny cooler when you go higher stall

thanks man i will talk to llyod after i get my gears. do you know if i can run stock exhaust with a H/C motor? it wont be bad for it or anything? i went back to another thread and quite a few people said they just went stock exhuast to avoid police attention, to avoid smog.
