Default Broken E brake

sorry this isn't really a modification thread. Was pulling my e brake to park my car a couple nights ago and the handle popped, lost all tension, and flew back. It's loose, still ratchets, and the dash light still comes on saying the brake is activated. I was able to confirm the cable had broken loose of the bracket on the ratcheting gear on the e brake handle but I'm not sure how to get to it to re attach it. I've heard getting to this assembly is quite a pain and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this/any advice. Thanks!

I think the repair is in the Haynes manual. I've had to replace mine a few times but as far as I recall the cable is all one piece and you have to replace the entire thing. Mostly all I remember is removing the drive shaft, I think the cable runs along the tunnel. It's not really that hard mostly just tedious at most it's a 30 minute job.

Thank you! I lost my Haynes manual when I moved a few months ago. Looks like I'll need to purchase s new one.
