Default What do you think happend to my lt1??

So i just put some new coolant in it and i went to drive it and it was driving fine and i floored it and it (downshifted or whatever it does)started pulling then i heard a POP then the engine shut off and i rolled to the side of the road and i tried starting it and it had spark but wouldn't start.??

i think maybe transmission has not been very good in this car i believe..

yes ''check gauges'' and engine service soon

the pop felt like it came from underneath me the car has been shifting hard from 1st to 2nd since ive bought it and lately when i left off the brakes from a stop it has been kind of ''clicking'' from what i thought was the trans, the kind of clicking that you get when you shift the car from park to reverse, ect.

From the limited information, I'll guess opti rotor failure. Check for spark at the coil and then at some plugs.

Check the simple things first. Make sure your timing chain didn't snap (it's happened before) by rotating the engine and watch through the oil fill to see if your rockers move. If that checks out, go right for the opti. The SES and CG lights are only because the engine isn't running. For the engine to shut off immediately is either mechanical or the opti, IMO.

Just fuel igniting where it shouldn't/backfire either through intake or exhaust. Worse case through intake is it could blow out the diods on the MAF or damage your air filter.

OP

from this side of the internet it sounds like the rotor in the Opti came off because the two VERY small screws cam out.

Once you take Opti off and pull the cap you would immediately see if this happened. Just use blue loc tite on the screws and put it back together.

you may also have tranny issues related to that other sound...but that won't prevent a engine from running

It's a simple repair though. When you pull the opti out replace the motor with an LS1 and that should solve your Opti problems for good.

Definitely check to make sure the engine is not physically damaged. Really sounds like an opti to me though can you scan for any codes? Code 16 or 36 means the opti is damaged

Yea once you say 4th gen LS1 intake or fuel rails you get screwed. Had to use a fast to keep the factory hood, since I couldn't find a GM one in my area.
