Lt1 - cam bearing clocking
In my recent tear-down, I discovered that my #1 bearing was installed at 11 & 7 o'clock, which is what led me to replace them all. In 5k miles, that front bearing showed an abnormally troubling amount of wear in the 5-8 o'clock position. The oft-quoted LT1 rebuilder's book says that the best way to install the cam bearings is #1 @ 10 & 2 o'clock, and the rest between 2-3 o'clock. Other builders say #1 @ 1 & 5 o'clock, 2-4 @ 5 o'clock, and 5 @ 12 o'clock.
I chose to go with the rebuilder's handbook (#1 @ 10 & 2). Anyone have any info that would lead me to think I am making a mistake? Installing CHP-8's...
