Corvette Procharger Guys... belt issues?

Default Corvette Procharger Guys... belt issues?

So, I recently acquired an LT4 Vette with a Procharger set up on it. Full inter-cooled kit with no substitutions as I can see. It developed a bit of a squeak when cold that would tend to go away and did increase with RPMs. always sounded like it was coming from the front of the motor. Anyway, hit it with some belt dressing and the squeak went away, but my son then described the car as making a "marbles in a can sound" over 2k rpms.

Dropped the belt off the pulleys, and the bearing in the idler seemed suspect. So after removing the alternator, idler pulley, and power steering pulley, out she came.

Had a duralast tensioner, the exterior surface of the pulley definitely had some crap on it., and a duralast idler... hmm.

Anyway, put it all back together now it's a new sound... idle is dead silent and if you give it a rev, belt squeal over 2500rpm now.

I am thinking at this point, it is best to just replace the belt. Would have done this first, but it seems almost impossible to get it out around the pulley of the Procharger because the mounting rods encase the pulley. Any tips/tricks? As you can imagine, the instructions from parocharger for installation is pretty much "route the belt and install". Not exactly the most helpful. Just liek the service manual with the tensioner, yea remove the bolt and pull it out. Sure... except for no instructions on what needs to be removed to actually get the idler out of the engine bay

I've read that belt dressing is good for the day. As in you need the extra bite at the track but kills the belt quickly after.

I agree... I used it to isolate the noise.

I use water to check squeal because it seems like once you spray the belt dressing on, you have to do it daily.

I use WD40 on my Jeep fan belt when it starts to glaze, on the warmed up belt the WD evaporates and attacks the rubber just enough to kill the glaze.. Usually its the 90% warning squeal that the belt is dying. My jeep does not any any tensioner so you have to adjust it to tension via the alternator,, so the belt tends to need adjustment a couple times in its life as well..

Belts out... I ended up removing 2 of the SC mounting bolts and spacers. Made it pretty easy. Now onto the challenge of getting the new belt fished through. No enough room to reach my fat hands through from the passenger side to grab it from the drivers side.

I stopped screwing with it last night, just wasn't in the mood.

So... the tool needed for reaching across the front of the engine to grab the belt from the passenger side and get it to the drivers side is a 9 yo old's arm. Never had a belt so hard to work with.

Oh well, back on the road.
