I checked with an inline spark tester between the boot and the plug. Checked a few of the easier ones to get at on each side but not all. Didn't check to see if plugs were wet. All were gapped right when I put the new ones in. Haven't popped the rail off yet. Checked fuel pressure at the shrader valve and was in spec and held. Regulator seemed fine. Didn't replace fuel filter yet.

Shot in the dark- Unplug the MAF and try to start it.

Gave it a try but still no start. Should have time to dig into it some more tomorrow.

Well no luck with anything yet. Fuel is spraying out of the injectors. Replaced fuel filter. Only other thing I can think of is something with the opti. Going to pull it out and inspect.

Finally found the problem! Plug wire going from opti to coil was arcing on the water pump. Still had a lot of spark at the plugs though but apparently not enough.

Just if anybody is curious the wires were Taylor thundervolt 8.2 with about 30k miles on them. About 5 years old and still ohm good with no visible damage. The rest of the wires seem fine no arcing. Also even though it goes without saying don't waste $ on an eBay icm lol. As soon as the car went into closed loop it kicked po42.

Because electricity takes the path of least resistance it could've been arcing heavily while the engine was under load. I'd suggest also using plug wires that are no larger than 8mm. Once you go larger there is far less room to work with in the already cramped channels to run plugs. That's of course unless you have over the valve cover plug wires?

No I just have the wires run in the stock locations. I used a spark gap tester and it would still jump over a half inch gap on the 3 cylinders I checked. I got a set of cheap autozone ones for now. Unfortunately I might have to sell her soon. Inheriting my dad's 96 Impala SS and I'm out of garage space. Don't want to let either of them sit outside...
