Default Parts store optisparks

My son and I recently did an lt1 swap into a 92 camaro and discovered something interesting. He bought an spectra premium pin drive opti from local parts master store. We installed and it ran fine till it got to operating temp. Then started cutting out and throwing codes. He ordered another and before we swapped them out we disassembled both side by side what we found was the first opti had the washer/spacer under the rotor/disc the new second opti had the spacer on top of the rotor/disc. We installed the second opti back in the car and it has been trouble free for the past 3 months. The first opti rotor was actually rubbing the sensor housing where the second was centered in the sensor slot. If you do resort to using an aftermarket this may very well be part of the problem that people have with opti sparks. Just thought I would put this out there. Did some searching and haven't found this anywhere.

I am glad someone else discovered this little issue with the optispark that I noticed from past NAPA brands I bought when I tore them apart to inspect their construction. I posted this in past threads of mine but that small ring or lock washer ring really needs to be on top of the slotted disk of the optispark shaft since it has a slight warp and this pushes the slotted disk up on side where it rubs the sensor and I firmly believe it can't be good for accurate reading. Even on a GM training video the optispark slotted disk is sitting right on the shaft platform and depending on the manufacturer, the square tab actually locks into one of the raised tabs on the shaft so you really don't even need that small ring or lock washer, whatever the hell it is.

I recently did an MSD cap and rotor on my oem optispark. I didn't notice any washers in the original setup taking it apart, but did notice that the new kit came with 2 tiny ones. Where exactly are they located? The instructions made no mention of them.
