Default Removing HVAC box from engine bay while keeping heat

What's the best/easiest way to remove the HVAC box from the engine bay? I'll be keeping the heater. I have the block-off plate already, I'd just prefer not to rip my dash apart. I searched for other threads and there's a few where people say they've done it but they don't give specifics about how they've done it. Do I just start hacking it apart or is there some, more refined, method of doing it that I can't put my finger on? Does anybody have a write-up for how to do this?

Thanks

not that this will be helpful, but im semi adventurous but i do know my limits. i actually just got done tearing into the huge fuse box wire loom that runs along the driver frame rail and inside the cabin under the brake booster. i did this to delete all my abs wires as well as to relocate the passenger side fender wires to run under the dash and come out behind the ECU. anyway, with the engine out i really wanted to delete that hvac box cause the ac is gone but i need heat. from what i seen it is just to labor intensive to do this, and i decided to just deal with looking at the giant box.

You're probably better off removing it all and installing a small heater box for these street rods and utv's. They're pretty reasonable and very compact.

So I did this in my car when I first did the carb swap, my engine was out and I too did not want to mess with pulling the dash. Removed every bolt I could on the outside and then using various cut off tools, hammers, and saws I was able to get the outside box off. Then I had to modify the inside box so air would move across the heater core. There is a guy either on here or one of the FB groups that has a modded block off he sells to accomplish this. I never ended up hooking up my heat last year and got a firebird dash for the car from a pick a part so the inside box got removed this winter.

Link shows my car, and two other forum members and how they modded their box or used the block off with the bump out. FYI jegs sells a block off for our cars for 25 bucks....where the BMR one is over 100.

I would highly suggest yanking the whole thing out to do the surgery and also highly recommend keeping heat. At a bare minimum you want/need the windshield defroster.

As I mentioned in the original post, I’m keeping the heat and I already have the block-off plate. Just wondering what the best way to go about removing the box would be. Sounds like hacking it apart is the consensus. I was flirting with removing the engine anyway; just about everything else is already out. So this would be a good time to do it.

Engine out, easy-peasy to hack it out. Trust me, you'll love all the extra room you gain not having that monster in the engine bay.

I just got done yanking my dash to do the same. Probably have 4 hours in on it, since i didnt want to break anything. If you dont want to pull dash then youll have to bust the ac part up in the engine bay till its flush with firewall then screw plate the plate on. Yours has a bulge in it to allow heat to flow?
