Default Lt1 Carb swap Questions

I have a lt1 I put in my 87 caprice coverted over to carb and was wondering if I needed a gasket on the Opti block off plate. Was also having a problem with the harmonic balancer and answers would be great thanks.

What kind of problem with the balancer?

If you need a timing pointer you could always fab one (I used plumbers strapping) and affix it to the water pump, then use a piston stop and mark the balancer at TDC.
Only reason I did it was to compare a few optis - was seeing 5+ degrees of difference between units.
Likely not dead nuts accurate but I always treat timing advance as relative and tune at the dragstrip since seeing the variance between different timing lights on the same motor (among other things). Oddly enough the nice snap on and the POS harbor freight lights were in agreement - trust nothing...

The block-off plate should utilize the Opti seal that is in the timing cover.
