Default Cheap power for an A4 Lt1 bird

I just recently bought my first 4th gen firebird and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on relatively cheap yet worthy ways of making power. I dont need anything crazy i just want to be a little faster. I intend on doing some weight reduction this spring and figured i would add some power as well. From what ive seen a mild cam would do the work but wouldnt I have to pull the motor for that?

google LT1 mods and you'll find a plethora of information. I would do bolt ons, stall and gears before I opened up the motor. Bolt ons is the first step, cam and heads comes after you get bored of the first step...it's a progression thing.

Since you have an auto, two words...torque converter. Single best mod you can make to an auto hands down.

just stay away from cheap converters.

I only have experience with yank converters but there are other top end companies also.

Appropriate stall size is going to be dependent upon the rest of the setup, goals, usage, etc. I personally see no need to run less than a 3200. A converter is an item that you don't want to cheap out on. Yank, Circle D, Vigilante, FTI are some great brands to consider.

OP

if going with a TC with a stall speed greater than 2400....add a external trans cooler....a tranny temp gauge

you will get several opinions on what stall speed. IMHO with a stock cam 2600-2800 get one for a 4L60E lock up trans

What would you all suggest for an exhaust. Ive looked at many kinds and everyone has positives and negatives about all of them, so i was wondering if there were any that you had personally used that you would recommend to others for an lt1, whether its headers, full exhaust. I just want my car to be more aggressive sounding and have a little more energy.

Kooks if you can afford them. Hands down the nicest headers I've ever owned and still just as nice after 12 years. If you're going to keep the car spend the money and go for Kooks.
As far as a Catback is concerned the GMMG was really nice and Magnaflow sounds really good on an LTX with long tubes. True duals can’t be beat though. I’ve had it with Dynomax bullets and with 2 types of Spintech Mufflers and I like my Super Pro Street Spintech mufflers.

I had speedaddy headers off ebay the fitment was horrible but some people have had excellent luck with them it's kinda a gamble. Right now I have kooks and the fitment is great.

Speed Engineering is an option...stainless and cheap...not sure on fitment.
