Default LT1 knock sensor weird issue?

Okay, so a little back story before we start here. I swapped a 98 camaro to an lt1 6 speed from a v6. i know ls1 this and that lol but thats what i wanted. Every wire from a 94 firebird is in my car and it runs pretty well besides one small hiccup. I drove the donor car and noticed the fans were never on but it ran great, but after i completed the swap they were always on? so i tried diagnosing this last night after i drove 2 full tanks not thinking anything of it and noticed the knock sensor wasnt plugged in. I then plugged it in and the car felt MUCH quicker, SES light went away, and fans werent on at all times, and smelled was less rich. this got me excited until i realized my fans werent on at all even at temp so i pulled over shut the car down and unplugged the sensor again to get fans back so i could make it home and not cook a head gasket. This is where trouble started. After i got home and plugged it back in, it smells rich like it did with it unplugged, fans are always on, and SES light is back on. I dont have an OBD1 reader so im just assuming its the knock sensor as it seemed it previously was. I then checked the sensor and it had 3700 ohms which is perfect according to forums, and 5v signal to the connector. I know the PCM has a knock sensor module but i seriously doubt unplugging it like it previously was would randomly pop that module. Does anyone have any ideas? i want my engine to run correctly and not retard timing and i want to fix the fans with a water pump coolant sensor so they arent always running at max speed.
