New pump and sender, gauge reads zero
I actually had this issue last summer when i moved, but I'm finally ready to tackle the problem.
Issue: Car sat for literally 5 years un-touched, and as a result the sending unit and the pump were completely dead. I drained out the tank, and I replaced the pump and sending unit with a Delphi unit, and after installation the pump worked great but my fuel gauge reads zero. I only had a couple gallons of gas in it at first, but after it was started up I drove to the local pumps and put in a full tank of 93 no corn. The gauge was still bottomed out.
The only thing I can think of is that I somehow got the float stuck in there when I installed the pump, as there was ZERO fuel in the tank when I put the pump in. Is that possible? Any other things I should look out for? I bench tested the sending unit before putting it all the way in, and the gauge on the dash reacted to me moving the float up and down just as it should. Once it was in the car, NOTHING.
