Default Need help with LT1 rear caliper replacement! (E brake)

Hello gents, I’m having issues replacing my rear calipers- specifically with the e-brake. The manual calls for disconnecting the equalizer above the driveshaft but my passenger e-brake line had snapped.

Here’s where I’m at:
Because the line snapped at the equalizer and the DS side was under tension I removed the center console and tried seeing if anything could be done at the handle- no dice.

I managed to remove the end of the line on the driver’s side by compressing the caliper e-brake hook with a C clamp. I can’t compress the flared spring steel clip on the end of the line to pull it through the caliper bracket.

Am I missing something here? Any special tool or trick?

I attached a pic of what I’m talking about, I think its a 3rd gen caliper but same style clip.

Try a couple pairs of hemostat and compress that cable spring. May give you enough slack to get the end off. I've personally never messed with the parking brake myself tho. GL

Were you able to get it out?

If not, the last time I had to remove a parking brake cable like that (and it was a loooong time ago), I took a small stainless hose clamp and tightened it around the clip to pull in all the "fingers" at the same time. You may have to tighten the hose clamp higher, then try to press it down. At some point you should be able to pull the cable through as the hose clamp slides off. Hopefully that makes sense!

Thank you gents, I was in fact able to finish up the next day.

For the e-brake cable, out of the interest of time I managed to manhandle it and get both lines off. Had one of my cables not been snapped I wouldn’t have been able to do that though. Supposedly there is a nub on the e- brake handle that releases tension but I saw no evidence of anything like that on my 94 and even unbolted the whole handle/ base assembly.

Regarding those retaining clips on the end of the e-brake line, I took a zip tie and cranked it down as best I could at first. I still couldn’t get those stubborn “fingers” to compress 100%. I used a pair of vice grips on the other side of the bracket to keep the fingers under compression and with a small flat blade screwdriver I popped one finger in at a time until the line popped through.

Now we have new rear calipers and some 4 piston brembos on the way for the front

Another question: Has anyone replaced their e-brake lines? Where did you get them & did you have any fitment issues? I’ve read some posts on here about having a hard time with replacements that don’t fit (Rockauto?) I also saw on ebay someone selling US made sets. Any suggestions?
