Pcm question
Anybody have them just fail ... 1997 z28 115k miles. Had a shop switch the opti. They insisted on accel. Now after they charged me 1871 car wont idle in gear. Sounds horrible and clatters under heavy throttle and light throttle in overdrive.
They say its the pcm and only way to fix it is another 2 grand to repin to a 411.
What do y'all think?
Car was running fine before it died. No codes. No funny noises no clatter

Sounds suspect to me. I would not trust an Accel opti on my machine. So that might be telling of their understanding of the LT1 Gen II platform. Was it verified that the old opti was the problem or are parts being thrown at the issue with no root cause diagnosis?
The opti situation is getting tougher with the new supply of AC Delco and Delphi units pretty much done. Rockauto does have some AC Delco remanufactured units. I'd try one of them before I'd go with any of the "new" clones. Petris Optis seem to be getting good reviews, but I have no experience with them. I think they remanufacture the optis they sell.

Any backfiring? Does the clattering sound mechanical/metal on metal? It may be a good idea to take off the opti and ensure it's on the correct pin slot. Possible the mechanic who worked on has no idea which way is up. I wouldn't take it back to them.
