So I ran my 383 LT1 for about a year with the charcoal canister disconnected like in this picture. I never experienced any problems with this pictured set up. I have a more modified 385 engine now that runs on 100 octane, and was looking over the car when I remembered this(pictured). Since seeing this I have been wondering, will air get into my gas tank and damage the octane of my gas?!?!? Also purge line is back in there too. Thank you!!
Air is not going to change your octane, moisture will hurt the fuel though if it's stored outside and rain can get in those tubes, or a spider makes a nest in it and clogs the vent .
I believe K&N makes small filters that you can attach straight to the charcoal canister? Reattach that line and put a filter the line going into the engine bay.

One thing often overlooked, evap system intact or deleted, is the o-ring that seals the cap to the filler neck. Heard hissing at the driver's quarter the other day, right after a drive. The ring has a multitude of cracks preventing a proper seal. I'm up in the air with finding a replacement ring of the right size and material or replacing the cap altogether with a GM factory part.
