Default Speed Engineering LTH nightmare

So I purchased LT1 94 trans am (v8) headers with the ORY and took it to a high rated shop today only to get a call that the headers are not the correct size and they don’t fit ??? They told me they’re too small !! Speed engineering says they’re wrong so I’m stuck paying for labor to put the old stock heads and pony up the money to ship them back and get only 80% of my money back ! This is what the shop sent me, the stock gasket is bigger than the speed engineering one.

anyone have issues with these ???

First, their gaskets, bolts, and clamps are junk. That being said I've installed two sets and fitment was fine, but I use Felpro header gaskets, ARP header bolts, and a hardened bolt on the clamps.

What do you mean headers aren't correct size? Are you talking specifically about the gaskets or is something off with the headers themselves? Did the shop show you exactly what was wrong or did they just say the gaskets don't align and gave up?

They also sent me this video, they told me the gaskets are different size and the headers don’t align. They said the headers are too small and they don’t align at all, he said if they were too big then he can modify it but since they’re too small he can’t do much about it. I’m not well versed on this. I’m just going by what they told me. The mechanic working on the car has worked on lt1 and ls1 f bodies. He told me stainless works headers are perfect but those are super pricey. Again I’m not versed on this so I’m kind of annoyed. Speed engineering says they should fit and the shop says they don’t. Now I have to pay the shop to put the car back to stock headers $400 figure out the return issue. But if I think the shop is wrong and go somewhere else and they tell me the same thing I’m going to faint smh

Looking at the gasket picture, seems like something is amiss. Get a picture of the stock LT1 gasket against the new header flange and send it to Speed. If Speed sent you the wrong part, they should eat all of the shipping and other costs to get this right. However, if you ordered the wrong part....then it's on you.

They are correct about Stainless Works being one of the best, but also out of many budgets. This is what I would do if you can spare your car being down for a week, and if the shop allows you to keep your car there for a week. Tell SE what the deal is and order a brand new set and ship it directly to the shop so you don't have to pay them to put it back together with the stock manifolds. See if the shop will let you leave it there a few days while the other set ships. When the new set comes in compare it to what you got. If they are different, and it was the mistake of SE, then you have proof of the issue and can fight they pay return shipping on the old set. If they are physically the same, then something else isn't adding up. Don't forget to buy NEW gaskets and bolts. Don't use the junk they provide. Best of luck and hope you get it figured out.

Did you figure it out or send everything back?
they just need to use the inner bolt holes at both ends of the head.

Not yet, I have an apt with this guy who started his mechanic career with LT1’s he told me he can make them go in. The shop probably didn’t even try. He’s booked until end of august. Speed engineering gave me time. They told me if they indeed aren’t correct I’ll get refunded. Also I filed a complaint with my bank and got my money back from the shop that did nothing
