While I was doing some data logging, I noticed that I my pcm was detecting knock upon start up only as the engine was cranking over. Roughly 2000 - 800 knocks. I really figured this was nothing, however I was just curious if this was a symptom of something else or just something to ignore entirely; standard start up sounds for example.

 

I want to say in the back of my head from a million years ago I saw or read this happen while someone somewhere at some point in time was data logging, and it was no big deal. Have you done a search to see if others have any input on this?

 

You will generally get some knock counts just from the engagement of the starter. So, if this is the only time you get it, then it's not a real problem unless your starter is loose, bendix floppy or gear mesh is not so good.

 

I have yes and they were having actual mechanical issues. But my engine is running fine. Not even burning oil.

 

Is that so ? Okay I didn’t even think about that one. I’ll keep and eye on it but you are most likely right.
