Default Lt1 starter

I think my starter is going bad because it only engages sometimes and grinds a bit sometimes before it engages like it’s not extending far enough. For some reason the only starter advance auto is showing is $280, what has everyone been using for starters lately? I remember a long time ago hearing the LT4 starter was better and cheaper, or are there any lighter aftermarket units that are budget friendly?

Is there anyone local to you that rebuilds starters?

I remember reading the same thing years ago. In my area a reman from NAPA is going for that same price. A "new" one is $100 more. I put in for a '96 Vette and a reman is in the $170 range, but don't know if that's for LT1 or LT4. Nothing to specify the difference.
Found this on Summit:

Yes you can get an LT4 starter. Right now you can get a new one from Autozone for $199 with a $40 core charge and they have a 20% off coupon right now.

used to be able to buy a Denso new "vette" (96) starter for $99 at Autozone. They are a true offset gear reduction type starter unlike the stock starter

Now rockauto, get the REMY for a 96 vette

More Information for REMY 99719 (rockauto.com)
