Default 1996 Trans Am

Hey i know yall hate these questions but my friend just got a 96 t/a m6 and i was wondering an estimated 1/4 mile time and hp/tq rating....it has the lt1 with a forged 355 rotating assembly...230 duration .585 lift cam...stage 3 heads with 3 angle valve job...hooker headers with ory and flowmaster....bbk tb...and intake...its running pretty rich...but can yall just give me a guess...he doesn't have a tag yet and i was wondering how well i would manage with my 01 t/a stock...i heard lt1's weren't as quick but this one is pretty heavily modded.

Moving this to the LT1 section...

With a tune you'll be deep into 12s. Just run it, you never know. Does it still have the stock rear?

yeah still has stock rear...and i don't think it has a tune...which im kinda suprised...i didn't think you could run the car with those mods without some sort of tune...but yeah it is running quite rich...it smells like a boat engine...but with the conditions as is...do you have a guess on times or power output for that matter....i just wanna know how much bs this guy was giving him

I wouldn't even guess what it would run without a proper tune. It could run anything. My car ran 14.1@97mph while untuned.

he took it to the track and bested a 13.8@??? hes got some skinny like 235/35/18's i imagine those most definatly skew his times quite a bit...i don't know what his 60's were but i imagine they weren't prety

Depending on how rich he's running, his trap may be way down there also. When I first got my car and it was running pig rich, I bested a 14.1@97mph.

ran again 13.6@105...didn't get a 60' but he was saying wheel hop was bad...said it sounded like he broke something...but he didn't of course....what all can be done to help him out...he said something about ladder (sp) bars...don't know what they are..but suposivly they give good traction...he's lowerd a pretty good bit with eibach's too...i guess his tune isn't that far off if his mph is that high?? seems wierd with all the stuff that he has i would think he would be much faster...but im used to an ls1 i don't know how well lt1's respond to work...i just heard nitrous+lt1=fast...i could be wrong there too though haha...enisguy you seem to be a genious about the lt1 so ill just take your word for it

if he's running really rich i wouldn't even run it. there's no point to me in running a car with it running rich. it will not run to it's potential. 12's with that setup should be really easy. 11's is possible depending on weather, tune, and how well he can drive.

If you cant make 11's with those kind of mods something is definitely wrong. Get a mail order tune from PCMFORLESS although it will be a little bit of a guess as you dont seem to have exact specs on some of the parts, Brian will work with you to get the tune done properly.

i wouldn't expect 11's from that setup at all...its a heads/cam/bolt on lt1...he doesn't have good tires either...and who knows how well he did the stuff or if it is even true.(he bought it like that used)..a lot of ls1's won't even pull 11's with his kind of mods...i've been trying to get him to go get it dyno'ed but he is just going to get his computer fixed or something...oh well..his car not mine...i'm fine with it..that way i can beat him still haha...

Are you the good stuff? We have bolt on lt1s in the 11's. It's not that hard to get a H+C lt1 in the 11's. Not to mention he should be able to easily trap 116-120MPH.

show me a bolt on lt1...that is in the 11's....not being sarcastic i just want to see one...so are you saying lt1>ls1 because the only ls1's i've seen in the 11's that are bolt-ons have slicks and weight reduction....and i thought lt1's had about 40hp less than the ls1

There you go bolt on LT1 in the 11s, it should have hit 10s on H/c but the high mile stock short block let go. A 355 depending on how its set up should atleast be in the 12s on drag radials I would hope, it wont run for **** full weight on 18s. Nineballs, LS1 H/C, 400+rwhp car, hit like 13s in the 1/4 with no weight reduction and 2.5 sixty foots. If you want to set a car up right, it has to be on tires and light, only way it'll run good. Theres also plenty of 10 sec 355 cars out there, plenty of 11 sec h/c Lt1s. Your buddies set up should be in the 11s on tires hooking.

I have always liked that T/A!!! Thunder Racing must do a great job on that head work. I wonder why they left em with the 1.94 valves though??? Oh well looks like it didn't hurt the performance!

how did you manage a 12.868 with only intake and exhaust...seems like quite a quick time for your mods....maybe i underestimate the lt1 too much...it just seems like if yall start out with a lot less hp...then you should be quite a bit slower than an ls1 with the same supporting mods....
