I'm back on this thread because now that Holley has support for a 6 speed transmission I am looking back at using that as my controller instead of the Torqhead system for my stroker.

I believe that on a b-body keeping stock gauges with the Holley should be pretty simple. I require stock gauges. When I put a Holley in my dad's car I am hoping it will give me some good experience and I'll have a better understanding of it.

Any gauge that hooks to a stock sensor on teh motor , fuel gauge etc is fine,
If the gage is driven by the ECU, game can change..
The Holley in theory could output a signal for some things, but I bet a Dominator would be a better choice if you need any.
I have a pretty full out Holley terminator X max and I ended up with the expansion module to get enougg IO to do whatI wanted. with a NA motor and a 4l65E..

The Dominator is a big step up in I/O capability if you need custom outputs to drive things like a factory speedo or tach if its currently ECU driven.

Before you throw down money, download the manuals and read them carefully for the product your interested in,
you can also download the Holley tuning software and check it out, its somewhat limited if its not connected to a ECU but it will give you ideas..

I thought if the goal is to keep your stock gauges, the Torqhead is THE simplest solution.
So I can learn here: What about the Holley is attracting you? Is it cheaper, does it allow more tuning control/flexibility, etc? Inquiring minds want to understand.

Holley tuning is apparently god tier. It is just so simple to use.
Also transmission swapping is a lot easier. IF the 6Lxx really are supported now then there is almost no reason to ever go with a 4L80 for a non max effort build with a Holley set up. It cuts a lot of the finnicky crap out.

I'll give Holley ease of tunability and none of the weird quirks you get with monkeying around with a stock PCM. But the ability to run a 6L80/90 is nothing new.

That will let you run one with anything, and cheaper than the buy in to a Terminator. From what I think I see, the Holley trans controller needs the Holley ECM to talk to in order to work. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Very I interesting comments from you and others (below); thank you.
My boss has 4 muscle cars that have the Holley Terminator system on them. Other than knowing these cars are Holley brand EFI, I didn’t know anything about the system. I spoke to him at lunch today and he basically said for his old big blocks, it was simple, clean, improved the mileage, and was easy to use (and live with).
I just didn’t understand how the Holley stuff was superior to the 0411 PCM with the Torqhead conversion when it specifically came to working with the factory gages. I asked because I was also focused on keeping the factory gages for my Impala, but as I got farther along, I am now thinking of going to a Dakota Digital or something more involved that would be more powerful, but a custom install.

That Zero Grav works but only sort of. I haven't seen one installed on a b-body yet (that is a me specific thing) and the only vehicles I have seen complete with a 6 speed are OBS trucks. On newer vehicles (such as my GMT-800) it is a bear to install.
Doing the actual trans communication stuff is easy. Getting all the reverse lights, TUTD, tail lights etc. is the hard part.

Plus the Holley way links everything together instead of needing to be plugged into two different spots. I could be wrong here though.
