Default 1996 lt1

I am confused as to how a 1996 Corvette with the LT1 can be as fast or even faster than a stock 98-02 SS. I understand that the LT1 has 300 hp whereas the SS has between 320 and 325. What's the deal?

Well, from a dig, it could be said that the lt1 should be faster due to the power curve of the lt1. The torque "comes on" A lot sooner. I have seen a dyno with an lt1, making around 250 torque starting at about 1700 rpms and also have read it peeks at 2400 and from then on the power band is basically flat until 4500-5000 rpms and hangs around then falls. Comparatively, I have read that the ls1 makes peek torque at 3600 rpms. You could also compare the 170cc lt1 intake runner compared to the larger intake runners on the ls1, (I think they are in the 190 range) resulting in the lt1 doing better on the low end with the higher air speeds. There is a lot you can get into but over all the ls1 should out perform.

Power to weight. That's it. Vette weighs at least 300lbs less than a f-body.
