Nice, happy to see yours passed. I've been taking it slow, since I have been busy and since it is now registered. Just going down my list of things I wanted to do.

I just finished replacing both 02 sensors and all 8 spark plugs. I put on NGK TR55 v-powers (those are what it had too), I gapped them to the factory 0.050. That was a learning experience. Mine didnt look pretty. The 02's had odd coloration as well. The passenger 02 had a brownish coloration. Much more so than the last picture above (that was the drivers side).

All the plugs smelled like gas, but that was maybe because I havn't been running it much. Just a short drive testing EGR and letting it run in the garage a few minutes to check sensors the last few times.

Im going to do the fuel filter next and then move onto checking for exhaust leaks and I still think, after having watching several youtube videos. I may give it a go with removing the intake manifold so I can deep clean it and all passages to make sure its not gunked up. But before I do that, I may give it another go at the smog station with the new plugs and 02 sensors incase that is all it needs.

Update. As mentioned in the last post I replaced the spark plugs and 02's and fuel filter. After that I sat on it awhile debating pulling the intake to clean it. I went to an exhaust shop to check for leaks and they found nothing major but noticed a missing bolt or stud, not sure on the passenger manifold to block. They told me it was not one they could easily do themselves so we passed on that. But at least I know. They told me I should really do the cat. They quoted me a Walker 81128 (D-182-65) for about 500. I already knew of this one as I think I posted earlier. I got it off Amazon and had it installed today and the damn thing passed!

CATS typically save the day

regarding the missing, or broken, exhaust manifold bolt. That is the "source" of your initial fail. Your car will continue to have 02 since more air on that bank so PCM will command more fuel....which in turn will kill the CAT

You need to fix that.

Yep! I need to look myself to see if it's something I can do or not. But that may probably explain the 02 readings from my earlier scan9495 results.

I'll need to work to sort that out. I would also still like to find my iac=0 issue. But smog issues aside the main reason for this thread is completely.

But thank you everyone who contributed. Hopefully this thread may be of use to others down the line.

I might update this later when I continue looking into those two issues. This thread for me functioned as a log book too. Was helpful for me.

Bump for fun. I had to smog it again and remembered this thread. Passed without issue. Nox 15mph was 588 and Nox 25mph was 370. More or less identical to last time. If anyone is in a similar situation as me and your cat is suspect, just replace it..

How long do they smog cars out there. I thought after 25 years they were classics and as long as its all there you are good to go.
