Default Bolt on LT4, stall size?

Bolt on 93 LT4 with 700R4. LS guys love big donkey dick stalls, 4000 to 4400. LT1 guys like em lower, 2800 to 3600. I know I want a Yank. Should I stay lower being LTX or should I step up to 3600 to 4000? To further the debate, In the future I will have my LT1 heads and intake ported by LE and possibly throw in the hotcam. 6800 shift points will be attainable. Give me something to think about.

S10 converter is what I have used with both of those cams. Stalls 2,500-2,800 rpm and a reman converter is inexpensive. Drives near stock until you put the hammer down.

I wouldn’t go less than 3600 given your future plans

Yank SS3600 gets my vote, it's been in my car for over 18 years. I ran the s10 convertor for a couple years then tried a Yank stealth 2800. I really could not tell the difference. At the time Dave at Yank let me return it and suggested I get the SS3600, a night and day difference. It seems to be the sweet spot for the stock '93 Lt1 motor. My peak torque is roughly 4400 rpm and 3600 seems to be in the zone. I did install the modified Transgo kit in the 4l60 I got from Dana at the time along with a Hayden 24k trans cooler. It still performs flawless and provides that huge fun factor every time.

My 97 van not so much, my brothers 99 Suburban would easily spin the tires with 3.42s and the G80 in it. Even with loads of torque management to help the 4L60E stay in one piece it would get a nice chirp going into 2nd at WOT. The suburban trans had an HD2 shift kit and Sonnax Super Hold 2nd and 4th gear servos.

It always does at WOT, half the time it barks at part throttle. The shift kit plays a part in that, the more throttle firmer the shift and is recommended. I put new tires on last year and it helped considerably, BFG 245/50zr16 sport comp 2 a/s. Before that however, as tires wear they lose their traction capability. That Yank puts the power to the wheels instantly. It "always" spun through first 1st and 10' into second which made it a blast to drive. Drag radials = 0 spin and gave me a 1.74 60' with the Yank. The hard part is calibrating the shift points with the governor.

It's all about powerband and intended goals. Drag strip and sticky tires, or just driving around town doing smoke shows off the light. If the former, I agree, 3600, the latter, 3200. I run SS4000 on 396 LT1 with spray.

Just curious, what makes you an LT4?

XJ and Fast thanks for the input. It's what I needed to hear. I had a used vigilante 3k in my first lt1, a silver WS6 formula clone. It felt heavy, soft, and mushy with it. No fun to drive. Just furthers my desire for a SS3600. Sounds like a shift kit is definitely needed.

Joe, this used Lt1 came with a red intake so therefore it's gotta be an LT4. Kidding. Its the real deal, ZXD block.

Very cool. Did you buy the car with it already, or did you install? Out of a Grand Sport? Didn't GM do some crates as well?

Interesting story about it. Drove down to Van Nuys to buy it from one of the dudes from the short lived Netflix series called Car Wars. The guy parted out all generations of corvettes in his huge backyard. Pretty impressive collection. All manual 96 vettes got the LT4, but all LT4s came with the Grand Sport TB cover and red wires. 78k at the time. So no, not a GS but same motor.
