Still have my original which works. It did suffer the rotor screw backing out thing, but a little loc-tite and it's good to go. This one, too also had a month's worth of coolant leaking on it before I found out what was going on.

We kept a stack of em at shop for all the DPS and county cars with em.
... and all those good optis that were thrown away because people read on the internet that any coolant exposure meant they were automatically bad makes me cringe.

I still have a very dirty OEM one if anyone wants it. Both my cars are 24x now.

I have many friends with original opti’s on their LT1’s. We believe the secret is. No drive through type car washes or driving in the rain.

The Achillies heel for Opti is where it is on engine. Behind a WP with a weep hole facing it so when WP starts failing it pisses all over Opti and once coolant gets inside it, it will "stop working" (read this can be fixed). Removing C&R and reluctor disc and "carefully" cleaning the inside will fix it.

Defense steps can be taken by using a skim coat of dialectic grease on large O ring for cap and body and around the rubber sleeve on the 4 pin connector into the Opti. To eliminate the primary source of fail, the WP weep hole, you can either install a diversion hose from the weep hole away from Opti or convert to EWP. The later I did at 36k mi when my car went out of warranty. Still have original AC Delco Opti, actually the final one installed by dealer under warranty, which has since had C&R replaced just like any distributor when needed. It is now my spare and my Delphi has been on for several years.

Agree with comments made of people throwing away a real AC Delco Opti to replace it with a China POS when all the AC Delco needed was to be cleaned.

I think you can sell it to Petris. I have thought about that with an old one I have.

Thanks. I don't see anything about it on their website but sent them a message. I also have some Opti harnesses if anyone wants too, will probably put them on Ebay in a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion, they don't buy cores though.

I swear I saw that on their site in the past. Maybe they changed policy or maybe I was mistaken, LOL. Sorry, for the detour.
