Default Electric water pump

Ordered the summit racing elec water pump, replacing the cam gear driven one. Can I remove that cam/water pump gear without taking the intake manifold off? Slide hammer with a nut, ect…! OR CAN I just take the bearing and driveshaft out of the water pump and put my electric water pump on, and leave that water pump gear alone that’s under the timing cover? Thanks!!!

1) yes, no need to remove your intake.
2) first you have remove the water pump gear that is under the timing cover. And you have to loosen/remove your cam gear to get it out from behind that. It sticks out too far to mount a Mez electric pump without removal, I assume the same for Summit.
3) you can just find a plug the same size as your timing cover WP driveshaft gasket hole and pound it in, I found an aluminum one that was barely an interference fit so I didn’t risk cracking the timing cover.

I installed a CSI/CSR pump in 2004 and left the drive gear in. I was going to remove it when and if I needed to for a cam, leak etc. I never had an issue and it's still in there today. Just remove the coupler from the shaft.

I installed the Meziere HD water pump and left the gear in. Same, you just need to remove the coupler.

+3 on just leaving the WP drive gear in place. Have Meziere. 25 years and about 100k mi on it, no issues. I have had a spare Meziere in trunk for 20 years thinking they would not last as long as a mechanical pump. At some point I will need it. Can change it on side of road in 10 min.

Right, just remove the gear when you have to have the intake and timing cover off anyway. That's what I did on my 95 (gear is still free wheeling in the 97). I also jb welded a quarter over the timing cover hole for the gear.

Also save the gear and coupler. They're worth good money. I sold just the coupler to someone in Russia for like $60 on Ebay.
