Default OBD Conversions

Can someone please explain this OBD conversion stuff?? I need some background on it...What years have the OBD1 and then OBD2? Why people convert them, etc.

Thanks

Okay...93 is its own year and has a chip. 94-95 has the OBD1 and 96-97 is OBDII. The reason I see most people converting is the easier tunability of 94-95...ie 0BDI and also less miscelanous sensors...Air pump etc. Someone correct me if I am wrong!

Jordan's correct, the OBDII is generally much more stingy than the OBDI. There are more sensors.

93 was obd1 as well, but it is completely different in the fact that its an eprom versus a flash prom.

OBD2 can be weird on the LTs as well. false knock, false miss fire codes. its just easier to work with OBD1. the software for tuning is much more user friendly than say LSedit as well.

oh and just so you know only 97 and 96 cars can be retrofitted to obd1, LS engines cant.

You can typically pick up about 5hp on a decent setup by switching to obd1 from an obd2 setup. I'm pretty sure that by doing this you lose street legality but most people don't care about that anyway.
