Using stock rocker arms with CC306
Is it possible? Friend of mine says it should work but obviously wont perform, I just need to get the car running and move it ..probably wont drive it much if at all... needs a tune and I want to get a set of CC Gold 1.6RRs for it..but they are more than I can afford at the moment. Opinions?

Yeah, I think you're fine with the stock rocker arms, but you'd need upgraded valve springs to be able to handle that much lift. Otherwise you'll have high RPM valve float
(somebody correct me if I'm full of sh**)

I believe you'll need new springs anyway with the added lift from the 306, so I don't see why you wouldn't want to go with 1.6 RRs. Might as well just shell out the dough for them, or you might regret it. Take advantage of it while you've got the valve covers off so you don't have to do the install later if you decide you want them.

As far as I know, they should be fine. But then again I haven't done much valvetrain work to my car, so I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a valvetrain expert.

two words, tow truck. when in doubt just tow it. but you should be fine so long as the springs have been upgraded. you dont wont coil bind from simply turning the cam over at idle

I have heard nothing but good things about harland sharp.
Kinda old GP but maybe if you call them they will knock a few bucks off.

There are no adverse consequences by using the 1.5 rocker. it is easier on your springs than the 1.6's so if thats what your worried about then dont. Because you arent sure what your springs are, i woudl definately run the 1.5's for insurance because they will eb easier on your valvetrain than the 1.6's. with the 306 cam and stock heads and stock bottom end, you arent gaining much from 1.6's, maybe 5 rwhp. ported heads and 306 cam might give you 10 additional hp with the use of 1.6 rr's, but thats it. 1.6 rr's arent the best bang for the buck mod to be honest. You can install them just as easy with the motor in the car as with the motor out. Valve covers are an easy removal(5 min) so dont let that allow you to make an irrational decision. With the 1.5 rr's, there is no need to take it easy, they are safer than the 1.6's, so dont worry about driving it easy, you can drive it just as hard if not harder than you would if you had the 1.6's on there beacuse you'll have less stress on the valvetrain. basically, what im trying to say is, 1.5's are safer than the 1.6's, will not hurt your car in ANY way shape or form, and will be easier on your current springs so dont hesitate to use them whiel you are waiting on your 1.6's. You wont notice a great deal of difference with the 1.6's anyways and you can beat the hell outta the car and feel safer with the 1.5's.

Great post! Thanks for the info as that clears up a lot for me. Im good with wrenches but sketchy on the details... I learn more and more as I tear further into this thing. I will probably stay with the 1.5s then since the extra cash for RRs could be spent on my new interior. (Was torched and has no interior right now ) Thanks again.
