Code 41 but car runs perfectly?

Code 41 but car runs perfectly? Fires right up every time, no misses, no stumbles, but immediately sets code 41 (open ignition control module) every time it starts. I clear it with eehack and as soon as I start the engine, bam - code 41.
All of the code 41 discussions I can find are diagnosing no start or poor running conditions, but mine runs fine. And I don't think the code was a one time transient fluke because it sets it every time.
If there was really an open circuit between the pcm and icm, the car wouldn't run would it?

bad icm, mine did this and then eventually developed high rpm misfire, then misfire under regular driving. Then terrible backfire once that blew my muffler out. This happened over the course of a year or so. Finally car wouldn't run. Got another new icm from autozone and it did the same thing. I replaced it with gm one for $100 and its been running great since
