Default 1997 Camaro SS ASR Switch?

We just got this 97 SS a few weeks ago, I'm kind of confused about what's the purpose of it is. Also, the owners manual shows somewhat different looking switch. Any help would be appreciated, photo of mine. Thanks.

I've been looking more into these, from what I've been able to find the RPO code should say NW9....I don't see that on the label. As you can see there's no marking near the red bulb ......it looks like it on but that just the flash from the camera.

The ASR switch on my '95 formula is down on the console. It's a pretty primitive and invasive traction control system. It more or less just shuts the engine down if you drive hard (e.g., autocross).

Does your RPO label have a NW9 on it, from what I can find it should have NW9 on it? Mine does not have NW9, that tells me I don't have ASR. I'm wondering if this is some kind of aftermarket mod one of the previous owners did, Thanks for the reply.

Best guess given that you don’t have the traction control RPO: That’s some sort of indicator light for an add on that definitely wasn’t there from the factory. You’ll need to trace the wires to find out what it does.

Red indicator is from an alarm someone installed at some point its not factory.
If there is any question of your car having or not having traction control open the hood. If the accelerator cable goes straight to the throttle body it does not have traction control.
If it runs into a throttle actuator module with a 2 wire connector on it then it does have traction control.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm thinking aftermarket alarm system also.
