This question has probably been answered multiple times in the past but I cannot find it for the life of me. I’m trying to figure out what transmission cooler works best with these 4th gens. I have a 96 Z28 with the 4L60E. I found one specific model that someone said was very popular at the time, but it seems it has since been discontinued. I’ve seen some by Jegs and Mishimoto, but I don’t know about fitment in front of the radiator and things of that nature.
Most if not all trans coolers are universal, its just a matter of how you decide to route it. I used a 40k tru cool on my silverado and put it behind my front bumper and have vents in my bumper that allow air to go through and I also have dual fans on it.
TWA mounted his all the way in the rear. I personally do not like that, long lines have to be ran that could’ve damaged possibly, mounting in the rear gets all the debris and even heat to an extent, how much soak idk?!
I studied and decided a front mount was way to go. So say use factory radiator to cooler and back to trans. I am of the theory that the stock doesn’t do much to begin with, so I am of the bypass it crew.
here is a pic of my 10 x 10 mounted on drivers side. I did eliminate the windshield fluid reservoi, but I don’t drive in inclimate weather anyways. I have a DeWitts 2row aluminum radiator with no trans line hook ups, and I also went with their larger 12” dual fan setup to pull more volume of air. Had to cut out part of the plastic air things that direct air into radiator. But have had absolutely no issues thus far.
Some folks use heat soaks, but again I am not a fan of those either.
Kind of hard to see in this picture but I put mine on an angle inside my front bumper with fans, and cut holes in my front bumper and put these style vents over the holes. I have a 4" intercooler up top so there was no way I was putting it there. Intercooler barely fit alone and I wanted to keep the cooler as close to the front as I could, I have 6an lines running directly to the transmission, bi passing 4 core radiator. My trans temps at highest may get to 150 and it has to be hot outside for me to see that or I have to be beating on it, and beating on it involves transbrake launches.
