Not charging - how to inspect the alternator Okay the battery is not charging, and I have a check engine light. Current cost of a rebuilt is over $200.00, but I do have old alternator parts in a box so I just want to try to isolate the bad part and replace that. I already tried a different module, brushes and stator, still not charging. Next thing I am planning to try is the armature but I need to go find a press first. Can anyone give me any insight into all the parts in the alternator work and how to test them? Also, could it be the single smaller wire that attaches to the underside of the alternator? How can I properly test that?

CS130 and 130D are common, dirt cheap.
Brand new cost down there should be $129 to at most 149 bucks.
If the copper slip rings are NOT worn down, a new pair of brushes and a New Recifier should cost ya around $25 at a local auto electric rebuild shop.
Pry out the seals, and push a small finger dab of grease in each of the ball bearings, if you haven't been through SALT WATER they'll probably go another decade.
There should be a rebuilder nearby that will sell you decent parts - My last road trip around America I saw a rebuilder in almost every small town down there.
Have you checked for good BATTERY power at the altenator B+ terminal?
Also, need ignition signal at the regulator (I) pin
