Default Oil pressure problems

I have had this problem for a little while now and thught I had it figured out but now Im stumped. When making a sudden stop, I will lose all oil pressure but the pressure will shoot right back up when everything "settles" again. I dropped the oil pan a lil while back and sure enough, the pick-up tube had fallen out so I had it welded back in. Even now, it still does the same thing. I have hit the bottom of the pan with both my fist and a rubber mallet and stuck a hanger in the oil drail hole to see it the pickup tube had somehow dislodged itself but as far as I can tell, its still in its proper location. I changed the oil today and checked the level and its good. The car has 135k hard miles on it(not all my fault ) so Im using 20w-50 weight oil so pressure is fine at idle and cruising but drops when slowing/stopping. What else could be the problem? Thanks guys.

The oil pres is dirrectly relatted to rpms. Are your rpms dipping very low durring sudden stops. If so this may be the problem.

I had a bad connection on my sending unit and somtimes my gauge would read zero all of a sudden. It may be nothing at all. Check your wires going to the Oil pressure sending unit.

The rpm's never go below 600, even on sudden stops. Normally the rpms go to about 1000 and then slowly drop to 850(my idle) from there. Ill check my sending unit wires and also the sending unit itself. Thanks for the speedy reply.

Also, I forgot to mention, I saw a Miloden oil pan on Horsepower TV the other day that had a pickup tube that "swung" with the momentum of the car. Im assuming that there is nothing like that for the LT1/SBC since the pickup tube design is different that the AMC motor that they were building up. Am I wrong or is there something like that out there for us?

I have never seen anything like that for us. But maybe some where out there it does exist.

Thats really odd Bo, seeing as your pickup is where it should be, that shouldnt happen. Are you sure you have it in at the right height and angle on the pump? What kind of pump/pickup is it?
