Custom cold intake - intercooler
Custom cold intake - intercooler Ok i just thought about this. I have a Firebird Formula so i have the "pointy" bumper. If i cut this bumper from fog light opening to fog light opening i get an area of like 38x6 which is a perfect fit for a Civic FMIC. They are like 30x6 i think. I was wondering if i (have to?) remove the crash bar and that styrafoam and i put one of those intercoolers there would it make any difference? I have an open element intake, a cheap one from ebay which take air directly from the engine bay, will i see any gains? I plan on running the pipes on the driver side into the Air sensor, and on the passenger side of the intercooler i want to put a K&N directly on the end of it.
Will this make any improvements whatsoever and is it even possible? I havent removed the bumper yet so i don't know what all is under there but i'm seriously considering this. Later on i plan on supercharging or turbo charging so i might as well do this while i have the time. Main reason i want to do this is be different, but i figure it might be kinda cool. What do you guys think?

sure you could cut it,but it wont look all that great.
Also it wont do anything exacept put more pipe into the intake system. you are already drawing ambient air,so the intercooler wont be cooling anymore then what you are already drawing in. more trouble then it is worth and no performance gains.
