Default Lt4 Conversion

Is it worth the money for the heads/cam/intake/rr's??? it claims 425 horse for around 2300 bucks. so is that really worth the money or can you make more hp going another route. like big cam, ported stock heads and ported stock intake with rr's???

You would make more hp with the second route...however....it would likely cost more if you got everything the lt4 kit includes.....gaskets, pushrods, keepers, lifters...etc. I think the best money conscious route would be to buy the lt4 kit...sell the lt4 hotcam that comes with it....and sell your heads, and intake with that. Then buy a GM847 cam for $209. That would be a good swap and be a real performer....dont forget you will need LT's, free flowing exhaust, a good tune pcmforless.com for the budget concsious, and port your own t/b to 52mm.....an auto will need a stall/gears too

I think it is a pretty good setup. The LT4 Hot Cam is not a bad cam at all.

My personal opinion is that the LT4 is only good for those not willing to do research, there are other heads/cam packages out there that will make more power for less money and still drive well. I know it sounds stupid but the LT4 stuff is popular because everyone uses it so everyone else thinks it is great and continues to buy it, not because of asounding gains.

You are unlikely to see the 425hp(at the crank) as actually installed in a car, dyno tersts like that are dyno tuned and with minimal or no accessories as just the begining of why you won't see that number. The ports are also arguably too big for a NA 350, in stock form the LT4 intake needs work to fit the LT4 heads right as well, it is just not anywhere near as good a package as most believe.

I like Jordan57's idea. If you do the research and buy your heads seperately, just hog out your factory intake and TB. You can save here and there and have a better performer.
