Default Cam question

well i have a 93 Trans Am A4. i would like to have a little more power. so i have been thinking about swapping cams to the LT4 hot cam. just the cam for now, and i am adding headers, ORY, loudmouth Catback, CC pro mag roller rockers 1.6, and guide plates and new upgraded springs, and lifters, and moroso oil pan and new high volume oil pump. the only catch is......... that the motor has 156,500 miles on it, but i have done intake gaskets to it before, and the motor on the inside is damn near spotless, you could eat off of it besides the fact of there is oil on it. but any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

or what about the complete 503 or 305 cam kit from comp cams???
do you think that any of these would be safe enough to run in the car.

i think your pushing it. i say this because the number one cam bearing on these engines carries a heavy load due to the cam driven opti and water pump. it wears out on the bottom of that bearing over the years. putting a new cam in there even a small one could kill the bearings resulting in a rebuild. so eithe save the pennies and get a new engine or take the chance and see what happens. if you decide to chance it i hope it works out for you.

theres an article in High Performance Pontiac about a guy pushing a cam only stock motor with over 170k miles into the high 11's w/ nitrous. he drives it everyday. i say go for it. i have 120k miles and im doing a hot cam and msd ignition with the new msd opti cap and rotor.

I say go for it as well....if I would have known a little more about the stregth of LT1's, and how many other people were doing cam/head swaps on 120000+ motors I would have done it too. Good Luck, you'll prolly just have fun and want to rebuild it soon anyway before there would be a probably...feeling this power your only going to want more....I suggest having it tuned as well by PCMforless.com Alvin did my 93 383 LT1 and it runs awesome.
