Default What year/models 4L60e will fit?

A friend of mine has a 94 Z28 that needs a tranny. We found one out of a 2001 s-10 (2wd) with the 4.3 that only has 9000 miles. We can get a good deal on it, and his car is basically stock, so we were thinking about using this tranny for his car. Would there be any differences in this tranny and his? Are all 4l60e trannys the same? If they are different, could anyone give the models and years that would interchange. Any info on this subject you could give would be a big help.

The V-6 4l60E is completely different than the LT-1 4l60E (Different servo, weaker plantary, different valve body) however it may work at first it will not last long (1 or 2 weeks). Ive been in the same place you are with my car (I put 5 trannys in it and broke the flexplate once) so Ive pulled my fair share of 4l60e's. Im sorry to say but your not gonig to find a desent rebuild for under 1000$, and make sure you case is not cracked or it will all be for nothing.

Did 4l60e trannys come in full size (1500) trucks? If so, would it also be different than the one in a LT1 car. There are several of these used at a local junk yard. Personally I would just get it rebuilt, and stregnthen the weak links while I was at it, but my friend is bent on fixing his car the cheapest way possible. Also is there anything that would swap in like a 4l65e or another overdrive that would be stronger? What is the difference in a 4l65e and 4l80e compared to the 4l60e?

4l65e is just a 4l60e with stronger internals and a stronger planetary. the 4l80e is a behomoth of a trans and is much stronger internally. Takes custom work to get it to fit/talk to an LT1/LS1 pcm though.

Actually alot of the 4.3 units will bolt up the biggest key is the bolt on bellhousing the newer units use. I just had a guy get sold one saying it would fit...I am doing a case swap now to make it fit correctly
