i have a 1996 z28 with CAI,catback, under drive pulleys. I am in the process installing a 2600 vig stall with shift kit and trans cooler and 3:73 with drag radials, everybody on ls1tech tells me that i will blow my rear, its a 10 bolt 7 1/2 and those are the week ones, so i have a option, buy a 12 bolt that about 2,000 or would i be safe without doing the 3:73 and just the stall ect with out killing my rear
thanks

I have a stock 10 bolt that I have hundreds of 1/4 mile passes on with the last 75 or so being on ET Streets. The auto is definatly easier on the rear than a M6 car is. You can find used 12 bolts for around $1500, sometimes even less even though thats rare. I think you will be fine with the stock rear for now until you start making a lil more power.

You may want to think about another carrier too. I had an Eaton carrier in my ten bolt and it held up to a lot of 12.4x runs at the track. I now have a 9", but my 10 bolt still worked when I took it out!

Really, your only options are going to be a stronger carrier, a 12 bolt or a narrowed Ford 9 inch. The power is not going to kill the rear its the sudden jerk during your launch if you hook really well.

My car came with the Torsen differential carrier and the TA aluminum cover, is this the same as, or better, than an aftermarket carrier(like Eaton) ????
