Default 11lbs of STS Boost + New OPTI = COil Over system I guess?

Well I just got the STS system running Pretty Good! Boosted it up on High to 11lbs of boost. WAS running great till the Opti Flew apart! Any of you guys upgraded from an Opti spark to a Coil over system? Which one did you used and what do you recommend? Thanks, Lata, Ark

opti's aint that bad in my experience, only had one go out at 115,000... I would just get another although many people would dissagree...just because you're boosting or makin alotta power, shouldnt affect your opti.

Dude I am not gona go with another one. This one was BRAN NEW! It was like a few months old and probably did not see 3000 miles. I just don't think it can stand up to the power? I am gona go with a coil over system for sure. Anyone have a suggestion on which one I should go with?

Delteq seems to carry a nice reputation, I'll probably end up going with one myself when the time comes.

Get the freaking MSD cap and rotar kit from jegs. I would trust MSD on distributor parts for sure compared to stock, if your having problems. Besides the deltech needs a fuctional opti to work properly from what i understand.

Actually it only needs the lowvolt optical side. the high volt side can be shot, removed, ect. and the Delteq will work happily. the highvolt is the failure prone side of the opti, the lowvolt rarely fails.

how much boost your running has nothing to do with your opti coming apart. ive got a friend with a 383 running 16lbs right now with an opti and hes fine, hes run over 20lbs and not had problems. you have another issue to worry about first, but it could have simply been a bad opti.

97LT1 - Thanks for the Input BUT I am going with the Delteq! I have read horror stories about Opties failing for 2 years NOW and I have Bin lucky Until now. This unit is only a few months old and probably does not even have 3000 miles on it! My rotor flew off but the optical trigger seems to be fine!

Nova5 - Yep what you said. However I spoke with my Tuner today and he said that he sees more failyers from the low voltage side (mostly old age) and recommended that I get the 2nd gen/version once its available. I understand that it replaces the opti completely.

Snow Dog - Yes I agree with you. Probably not got a ton to do with my boost level. I also Know that there are Good Opti's and Bad Opti's. I guess this NEW one I got was a BAD one! I just don't want to spend another $300 to have it go out next time I boost it up Or whenever it just decides to carp out again! AS for other Issues, I got most of that Covered. Built Turbo specific motor, Built Tranny, Upgraded every part of the suspension, and I got Meth for when I boost up way HIGH. I am in the final stages of setting up this project. I have bin working on it for over a year now.

I had good luck from My last (OLD) opti BUT when I built this motor I went with the vented (improved) version and it craped out in no time at all. That's just to hit and Miss for me. Time to try something NEW! Thanks, Lata, Ark

Well Hear is the Update. I just took the Opti apart! Looks Like the screws that Hold the Rotor On backed OUT! Once that Happened the TIT that posisions it in the right spot Snaped OFF! SO the rotor was just going wherever it wanted to and the 2 screws were Just bopuncing Around! Best I can tell the screws were LOOSE! This SUCKS because Like I said this was A NEW Opti from GM! Not verry good quality Control on this part! Thats for sure! ANyone know what size thoes tinny screws are and or where I can get a driver for them? Thanks, lata, Ark

PS - I am still going withthe Delteq and as soon as they offer the 2nd gen stuff I am eliminating this piece of Junk totaly! Thanks, Lata, Ark

Ive seen those rotors fling apart, screws break out etc more than once. A car that revs really hard in the upper RPMs is sure to do it. Make sure to remove the rotor when you go with coilpacks, that way if it comes apart again it wont trash the inside of the opti too.

Well it looks like the Base of the Rotor Holds some of the Guts together (tinny Metal Disks)? I am gona get a NEW rotor and Grind the TOP part off and just use the base to hold it together. Then I am gona use some Blue lock tight on the screws and HOPE it holds together? Now that I am able to look on the inside of this thing I gota say. I am shocked at how crappie this thing is made! They cost enough!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry...I didn't read all of the posts, I was just giving one for Delteq. Easy install, works great, blah blah blah

Delteq +1

The only part of the opti you will need is the optical portion which looks like a metal disc with open notches around the outside. You'll be fine with removing the remaining parts of the broken rotor and sealing her up.

Problem is that the ROTOR hold the Disk in place. If I remove the rotor the disks will flop around on the inside! Know what I am saying?
