Question Cam Question....

Well the car is sitting for the winter so i've decided to go ahead and throw a cam in there and i was wondering which one you guys would think would be best for me.....(96 Trans Am) I have a full LoudMouth cat-back, Pacesetter LT's w/ a y-pipe, CAI, 3.73 gears, shift kit and then since im getting a cam, im looking to also get a 2800-3000 stall. i was thinking of going w/ a CC305 but i was wanting to get your guy's opinion

Thanks!

It just depends how big do you want? I have a emmisions legal cam. ( i think it is closer to the non emmisions but stilll legal) I would however go with mine or cc306.
A lot of people think the cc305 is a little small after they have put it in.

I dont have to have an emissions legal cam and i want to be making pretty good power but it is a daily driver so would a CC306 still be okay? and i was probably going to get a Yank 3000 stall. and im kinda new to all this so with a cam all i would need is springs, 1.6 roller rockers, and what else?

CC306 or GM847.....cheap and effective. You will need springs, retainers, locks and I would say get lifters and hardened pushrods too for insurance. The 112LSA of these cams is aggresive but nothing that a good tune..mail order even......shouldn't be able to take care of. Also don't forget to replace the timing set when the cover is off. Also gaskets....that should be all!!!!

I've driven a few cars w/ the CC306 and it pulls like mad. But yes, you will need everything Jordan said. The rockers you'll need will be tho CC pro-magnums. I have never dealt with the GM 847, but guys on here says it a kickass cam, too.

I vote for the CC306 as well. My Vette has the LT4 hot cam and I must say, I wish I had a much more aggressive cam than that. Especially with my ported heads.

IMO the 306 is outdated...it was the new hotness years ago but there are similar but more aggressive grinds out there. Check out some of the XE grinds, much better than the cc306 with more aggressive ramps.

While there are a couple of people making good power with the GM847/GTP-6 and stock heads, I wouldn't recommend it. My heads have been worked and flow very well and that cam (GTP-6) pulls like crazy past 6600. Your stock heads are ill equipped to handle that cam.

You might want to look into the XE 230/236 or something similar.
